ALS Centre

The ALS Centre Team is a transdisciplinary outreach provincial resource team providing comprehensive consultative services to people with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis ( ALS) . The team is composed of full time and part-time clinicians in Social Work, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Speech-language Pathology, Dietetics and Physiotherapy. In addition, the team also has a consulting physician of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Neurology.

The ALS Centre has an established working partnership with the ALS Society of BC, the Provincial Respiratory Outreach Program and Technology for Independent Living. In 2003, the Team was the recipient of the ALS Society of Canada’s Exceptional Support Service Award along with ALSS BC and the ALS Clinic at VGH.

In 2004, the Team was included in the UBC Medical School’s Added Year of Clinical Competency program for Palliative Care.

Services
The Team’s clinical services include office visits for assessment or review, home visits within the Greater Vancouver area, facility visits for caregiver education and support including video conferencing, and telephone consultation for caregivers and health care professionals across B.C.. The team offers ongoing outpatient assessment, intervention, consultation and educational services in partnership with a wide range of community agencies and services.
